Latvian language courses organised by Riga municipality have been filled up for the first term in 2026
Riga Municipality informs that charge free Latvian language courses have already been filled up for the first term in 2026.
There was a high demand for the courses and there are some places left for courses which will start in the second part of year 2026.
Free of charge Latvian language courses for the inhabitants of Riga in year 2026
The aim of these courses is to help the adults to acquire Latvian language within level A and B.
Those who have declared their place of residence in Riga are eligible for the Latvian language courses organized by the Riga City Municipality. Pupils of schools and officially unemployed persons are not eligible for these courses.
There are three language centres (information is published below), which could provide Latvian language courses with English as intermediary language under condition that there are at least 15 persons with similar level of knowledge, who could form a group and attend the course at designated time.
The inhabitants of Riga have to choose the educational institutions from the list provided below and to apply there.
“Mensarius”
The compilation of the groups will start on 12.01.2026 – 10 Spring groups (the course will take place from 2nd February till 20th July) and 5 Autumn groups (the course will take place from 3rd August till 13th November). Two groups in Spring and one group in Autumn term will be organised as language clubs. Additional compilation will take place in case of vacant places from 20th July till 31st July.

Latvian Folk School
The compilation of the groups will start on 12.01.2026 – 4 Spring groups (the course will take place from 27th January till 1st June) and 4 Autumn groups (the course will take place from 1st August till 13th November). Additional compilation will take place in case of vacant places from 1st July till 11th July.

The compilation of the groups will start on 12.01.2026 – 8 Spring groups (the course will take place from 26th January till 22nd May) and 6 Autumn groups (the course will take place from 10th August till 27th November). Additional compilation will take place in case of vacant places from 27th May till 29th May.
